LABUAN: Several entertainment outlets and massage parlours (SPA Reflexology) were raided by the police yesterday in an operation to control crime, vice and drug-related activities on the island.

The operation, which began at 2 am, was led by Labuan police chief, ACP Adzhar Othman, together with more than 20 personnel from the criminal investigation and anti-narcotics departments.

A 40-year-old man believed to be the nightclub caretaker was arrested and 11 units of entertainment equipment were seized in the more than three hours operation.

“We must conduct such operation from time to time to control and monitor possible crime and vice activities here,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Some 33 patrons, including two women, were checked but released on the same day.

Adzhar said 50 foreign guest relations officers (GROs) and masseuses were picked up for further questioning pertaining to their permit and travel documentation.

“All of them also underwent urine tests,” he said.

“We also checked 48 patrons, including eight women, but released them the same day.

“We need to fully enforce the law. We want all the operators to comply with the law and operate in accordance with the stipulated operating hours, and that their premises are free from any element of vice activities,” he said.
