Fire and Rescue Dept helping to rebuild burnt homes
KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Fire and Rescue Services Department will help to rebuild houses destroyed by fire under the 7th Nation Blue Ocean Strategy.
Its deputy director general of operation, Datuk Amer Yusof, said RM1.83 million has been allocated for rebuilding houses that have been destroyed in fire while RM639,000 will be allocated for repairing old houses.
According to Amer, nine houses have been repaired under the ‘Program Baik Pulih Rumah’ (House Restoration Programme) since 2016, which cost RM13,000 for a house in Peninsular Malaysia and RM15,000 for a house in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
“In Sabah alone, we have built 15 houses under the programme since 2012, including three projects this year involving RM40,000 per house,” he said at the Resettlement Housing Project at Kampung Sri Pandan in Putatan yesterday.
The event was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister cum Petagas assemblyman Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin.
Amer added that, since the project started in 2012, the department has successfully built 180 units of houses and repaired 139 homes.
“Although the number of houses built is small, we believe that our efforts are meaningful as we are able to contribute to the society and especially to those who are less fortunate.
“We have also received positive reaction from various communities who welcome our efforts in helping fire victims,” he said.
