250 attend Sabah International Endoscopy Workshop
KOTA KINABALU: About 250 local and international delegates are participating in the Fourth Sabah International Endoscopy Workshop held at Queen Elizabeth Hospital One (QEH1) here.
The four-day event which started on November 16, was organized by the QEH1 General Medical Department in collaboration with the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (MSGH).
The workshop, themed “Exploring new frontiers in endoscopy: From lumen to 3rd space”, emphasized on teaching and training of the gastroenterology fellows on a wide array of gastrointestinal (relating to stomach and intestine) and hepatobiliary (relating to liver, gallbladder and bile ducts) problems by the local and international medical specialists.
Audience in the workshop had the privilege of witnessing skilled world class endoscopists in action and their approach in the management of difficult endoscopic problems.
Endoscopy Treatment is a medical procedure used to examine a person’s internal organs and vessels of the body using an endoscope, which is a f lexible tube with a light and camera attached to it.
This procedure allows the physician to view on the particular part of the person’s internal body through the camera to identify problems and treatments according to the type of disease.
Speakers who are local and international medical specialists, including those from Australia, China, India and South Korea, were invited to present their work papers, which focused on treatment methods and procedures before, during and after treatment of endoscopy to patients.
Medical Development Division director of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Dato’ Dr Haji Azman Haji Abu Bakar officiated the opening ceremony of the workshop.
Also present were QEH1 director Dr Heric Corray, head of the General Medical Department and chairman of the workshop, Datuk Dr Jayaram Menon, chairman of the Association of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Malaysia, Dr Tan Soek Siam and medical specialists from overseas faculty.
