SK Tanaki students in Papar to get new school

-

PAPAR: The dreams of 70 pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanaki here to study in a new school building will finally come true with the construction of two new blocks with six classes which will be completed in December.

Work on the new buildings in the primary school which is located about 30 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu city centre began in August using the Industrial Building System (IBS) and is a project of the federal government undertaken by the Public Works Department.

A student, Mohd Haikal David said he and his friends were excited about the new school buildings as the one before was dilapidated and lacked facilities as well as a conducive learning environment.

“The present class (in the new building) is more comfortable than the one before,” he told reporters after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak visited the school to view the construction on the classrooms in the new block yesterday.

The Prime Minister also spent about 10 minutes talking to the pupils of the school.

Also present were Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and Sabah Education Minister Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul as well as senior federal government and state government officers.

Another pupil, Fida Rudy, said the old school building caught fire in 2015 and a new one was built with bigger and more comfortable classrooms.

Meanwhile, school head Jasri Amir Abjul said the Prime Minister’s visit to the school would hopefully inspire the staff and students.

He also expressed his thanks for the construction of the new school block where each classroom could accommodate up to 38 pupils.

“The school was built in 1987 and had only one building. The classrooms, teachers’ room, resource centre were all in one building. The old block caught fire and it was really dilapidated. The new block will be more conducive for the pupils to study,” he said.
