Claim of fish sold to outside wholesalers

-

SENALLANG assemblyman Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran has called for more control on the supply of fish in Semporna.

According to him, Semporna may be famous for its fisheries products but based on reports from the locals, the supply has been decreasing while the prices are rising.

He claimed that this was because the fish caught were sold while the fishermen were at sea to outside fish wholesalers.

As a result, fish had to be brought in from Tawau to be sold in Semporna, causing the higher price.

He then proposed that steps be taken to address the issue as it will have large long-term impacts in the future.

Nasir also urged the State Government to expand the road from Kunak to Semporna.

He said that the road was the main road leading to the Semporna town.

“Although the traffic congestion is not as bad as Kota Kinabalu, but efforts to rectify the congestion issue must be addressed,” he said.

Nasir also raised issues related to the condition of schools in Semporna and its surrounding islands.

He said that schools have asked for halls, chairs and desks and others.

He also commended the RM250 million State Government budget for the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) to improve safety control, including RM50 million for coastal surveillance radar.

“I support the proposal that stresses the purchase of modern assets that are related to safety. This includes assets such as helicopters and modern boats which will allow the security forces to carry out their operations effectively at islands,” he said.
