DBGCC’s ‘Big Hole 2 Ball Scramble’ golf Dec 6

-

KOTA KINABALU: Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club (DBGCC) will organise the ‘Big Hole 2 Ball Scramble’ golf tournament in Tuaran on December 6.

DBGCC golf director, Aaron Johnston, said the competition with a gunshot start at 1pm would involve a team event of two golfers per team.

“The overwhelming responses towards our ‘Big Hole’ 2017 tournament last June gave us an idea to have a second tournament but with extra excitement.

“The Big Hole Golf is a unique competition and is the only one in Borneo, so we hope it will give an exciting and new experience for the participants,” he said yesterday.

“The main difference between Big Hole Golf and the traditional golf is the cup size of the hole which is eight inches compared with the usual 4.25 inches.

“Another rule that breaks the tradition is having the flagstick remaining in the hole, making it a fast paced format for the game,” he added.

Johnston explained the format of play would see two golfers playing their drives and the better of the two drives is selected.

“The other team-mate then picks up the ball and moves to the spot of the better shot (placed within one-club length from the best ball spot, not closer to the hole).

“The second shots are played from that location. This process continues until the ball is holed out,” he said.

“For that, each team should not exceed the average handicap of 14 after the total has been divided by four.

“The men will start from the black tee and the ladies from the white tee,” explained Johnston further.

The tournament will feature the Gross and and Nett categories, apart from novelty prizes for nearest-to-centre-line, nearest-topin, best dressed team and most birdies by a team.

A ‘Sure Win Hole-In-One’ prize of a 4-inch Sony LED television will be up for grabs while there will also also be lucky draws.
