‘Need to re-look strategies to equip students with skills’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: There is a need to re-look strategies and approaches for the transformation of the education base in order to equip students with skills for existing and future jobs, said Talent Corp Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp).

TalentCorp Chief Executive Officer, Shareen Shariza Abdul Ghani, said the moves were also to develop proper talent to attract, retain and nurture talent in preparing for the future, as well as to identify the market’s requirements.

“The needs of the future should also be factored in when developing new courses of education,” she told reporters after the launch of ‘Future of Work, Workplace, Workforce Conference’ yesterday.

She said as of today, an estimated 65 per cent of the children entering primary school would ultimately end up working in completely new job types that did not even exist yet.

The one-day conference gathers global experts and home-grown champions in a stimulating environment for debate and discourse, which will set the course for Malaysia’s future of work.

This year, the government declared the need to look farther into the future, launching the blueprint for National Transformation 2050 (TN50), among others aims for future-proof the talent pool. Shareen said TalentCorp believed that the priority was to establish a National Talent Action Plan for the Future of Work.

“We must move beyond recognising the threats and opportunities that come due to the impact of megatrends,” she said.

She said that gaps continued to exist in the workforce, presenting a multitude of opportunities to re-skill and upskill talent across the levels. — Bernama
