35 acres identified for low cost housing in Sukau
THE Local and Housing Ministry, through its Sabah Town and Housing Development Board (LPPB), has plans to build low cost houses at Pekan Baharu Sukau, said its assistant minister, Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris.
“An area of approximately 35 acres has been identified for the residential development site in Pekan Baharu Sukau as contained in the Proposed Plan for Pekan Baharu Sukau Plan No. 09150032/B,” said Zakaria at the state assembly.
“The proposed low-cost housing development program will be presented in the forthcoming 11th Malaysia Plan Review and this development program will be coordinated with other government departments and agencies’ development programs,” he said when responding to a question by Sukau assemblyman Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman.
“The government welcomes the proposal for the development of public housing, whether low or affordable, at Pekan Baharu Sukau and the involvement of other housing development agencies such as SPNB, PR1MA and PPA1M are strongly encouraged by the ministry,” he said.
“Proposed housing development in this area may be submitted to the ministry for consideration and approval.
“In the meantime, LPPB has an affordable housing development proposal in collaboration with private developers and is it hoped that it can be implemented in the near future,” shared Zakaria.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan responded to Datuk Joniston Bangkuai (BN-Kiulu) on the delay of the Tobobon Gonipis road construction in Kiulu.
“The government is always concerned about the people’s problems. This road was tendered on August 14, 2017 as promised at the last sitting of the state legislative assembly,” said Pairin.
“Tender analysis was sent on October 6, 2017 to obtain the decision from the tender board of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry before a letter of acceptance is issued,” he concluded.
