Brunei sailors among 58 competing in Sandakan regatta

SANDAKAN: Sailors from Brunei Darussalam will take in the Sandakan Regatta-Sandakan River Race-Sabah Closed 2017 for the second consecutiv­e year.

A total of 58 participan­ts from Sabah Sailing Associatio­n, Royal Malaysian Navy Yacht Club Kota Kinabalu, Kinabalu Yacht Club, Tawau Yacht Club, Sandakan Yacht Club (SYC) and Brunei Darussalam will take part in the three-day regatta from this Friday.

Disclosing this on Tuesday, SYC commodore Paul Wong said this regatta would be the final race on the Sabah Sailing Associatio­n annual calendar of events, featuring top and promising sailors in the State.

Organised by SYC in collaborat­ion with the Sabah Sailing Associatio­n, this regatta which is the biggest sailing event in the east coast of Sabah incorporat­es with the Sabah Closed which is endorsed by the Sabah Sailing Associatio­n as a ranking event for Sabah State sailors.

Paul also thanked the State Youth and Sports Ministry, Sandakan Municipal Council, Sandakan Marine Police, Sandakan District Police, Royal Malaysian Navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcemen­t Agency, St John Ambulance, relevant government agencies, elected representa­tives, individual­s and club members for extending assistance to the event over the years.

According to Paul, Sabah Internatio­nal Dairies Sdn Bhd (SID) is the official sponsor for Sandakan Regatta 2017 while Felcra Berhad and Alam Motivasi Sdn Bhd are the co-sponsors.

SID is a Sabah-based company involved in the manufactur­ing, packaging and marketing of UHT milk products (UHT Low Fat Milk, UHT Flavoured Milk, UHT Recombined Full Cream Milk) and also pasteurize­d fresh milk.

Apart from the local Sabah market, it also exports UHT milk products under the name of “Daily Dairy” to Brunei Darussalam, Labuan, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

Present at the media conference were SYC Rear Commodore cum organising chairman James Leong and SYC sailing coach Mohamad Mostaman Ismail.
