Sabah Ports promotes safety, environment awareness at school
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd (SPSB) recently initiated its corporate social responsibility program to boost safety, health and environmental awareness among students of SK Lapasan, Kota Kinabalu.
The program, held on November 2, was aimed at creating a safer environment at school as well as educating students on marine life preservation.
Forty-five students were briefed by SPSB’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department on safety and hygienic practices at school while SPSB’s Port Auxiliary Police Department (PAPD) provided a fire prevention demonstration.
The PAPD further included a section on anti-bullying and methods to manage these encounters.
Sabah Department of Environment had also collaborated with SPSB in this program by conducting a briefing session on the dangers of sea pollution and its effect on sea life.
Students were engaged with quizzes and games as a way to educate them on the impact littering has on the ocean as well as the proper usage of recycling bins.
In line with this program, SPSB donated three safety signage to SK Lapasan.
Signage such as ‘Reverse Parking’ and ‘No Entry’ shall be utilised for the benefit of driver and student safety. An ‘Emergency Assembly Point’ signage was also donated to assist student and teachers during emergency situations.
