Woman with fake MyKad jailed

KOTA KINABALU: A woman, who worked as freelance manicure and pedicure therapist, was jailed for 28 months by the Magistrate's Court here yesterday for possessing a fake Malaysian identity card (MyKad).

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the sentence on Marinah, 22, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 25 (1) (e) of the National Registrati­on Regulation­s 1990.

The undefended accused admitted to having the MyKad bearing the number 951013-12-6536 under the name of one Firah Jerry on the fourth floor of a shopping complex here on October 11.

The magistrate also ordered the accused to serve her jail term from the date of arrest and to be referred to the Immigratio­n Department after serving her jail term for further action.

During the proceeding­s yesterday, when the court asked the accused what was her real name, she answered “Marinah”.

The accused also told the court when asked where she obtained the MyKad she said from a friend who told her that there was a MyKad but if she wanted it, she must pay RM4,000 for it.

The accused, who claimed to have been born in Sabah, explained that she thought that the MyKad was genuine and added that her documentat­ion had not been managed properly as her mother had died and she did not know the whereabout­s of her father.
