114 Sijil Rendah Ugama students achieve excellent results

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 114 students achieved excellent results in the Sijil Rendah Ugama (SRU) examinatio­n while 29 candidates achieved excellence in the Sijil Menengah Ugama (SMU) examinatio­n this year.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Haji Mohd Arifin Haji Mohd Arif said during the press conference announcing the result yesterday that a total of 4,572 candidates registered to sit for the SRU examinatio­n which was held between October 2 to October 6, this year.

He said the percentage pass for this year’s SRU examinatio­n was 90.9 percent, which was an increase of about 2.6 percent as compared to last year’s 88.3 percent.

He also announced that a total of 21 Sekolah Agama Negeri (SAN) schools and 11 Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) achieved 100 percent passes in this year’s SRU examinatio­n.

Meanwhile, a total of 318 students sat for the SMU examinatio­n this year, said Mohd Arifin.

The examinatio­n was held from October 2 to October 11.

“A total of 216 candidates were from five schools which comprised SMAN Toh Puan Hjh Rahmah Kinarut, SMAN Papar, SMAN Pekan Kunak, SMAN Keningau and SMAN Beaufort. There were also 94 candidates from government-assisted religious schools comprising SABK Islamiah Tawau and SABK Marakau Ranau. There were also eight independen­t candidates,” he said.

However, the performanc­e for this year’s SMU’s examinatio­n (90.3 percent) is lower by 1.8 percent as compared to last year’s performanc­e whereby the percentage pass was 92.1 percent.

Out of the 318 candidates, only 287 passed the examinatio­n, he added.

One of the SMU candidates who achieved excellent result in the SMU examinatio­n this year was Nurin Badzlin Masturah, 16, from Kg Merotai Besar, Tawau.

She told press members that she kept her mother’s advice close to her heart at all times.

“My mother always reminded me that success and failure was up to us, and that opportunit­ies were available everywhere. I believed in those words and worked hard and remembered that God always provides,” said the student from SABK Islamiah Tawau.
