Felda launches specially formulated fertilisers

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGV) through its subsidiary, FPM Sendirian Berhad (FPM) has launched two specially formulated fertilisers known as MPOB F2 and MPOB F2 Super K.

These fertilisers can support the growth of palm trees, maintain nutrients, and improve the efficiency of water infiltration and soil quality over the long term, said a recent statement.

FGV Group president and chief executive officer Dato’ Zakaria Arshad launched the products together with the director of Integrated Research and Development Department of Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Dr Ramlee Moslim and FPM chief executive officer Samsuddin Yasir.

“Through this collaboration with MPOB under ‘Licensing of Fertiliser Formulation’, FPM aims to market these products to palm oil smallholders throughout the country,” pointed out the statement.

To date, nearly 40 per cent of the total 5.74 million hectares of palm oil planted area in Malaysia are managed by smallholders.

Zakaria was quoted as saying that the fertilisers were manufactured by FPM under strict quality control using high quality imported minerals from Canada, Russia, Germany and Japan.

“With superior fertilisers such as MPOB F2 and MPOB F2 Super K that supply more balanced nutrients, smallholders can expect increased income through higher yield.

“FPM targets sales of 30,000 MT for the F2 fertilisers within five years. Based on the premium qualities of the fertilisers, FPM estimates an increase in F2 sales every year with potential for exports especially to Indonesia,” he said.

MPOB F2 is said to be suitable for palm oil cultivation in all types of land while MPOB F2 Super K is more suitable for palm oil peat estates, which is estimated at about 2.6 million hectares across Malaysia. FPM is the main importer and manufacturer of fertiliser in the country.

Operating in Pasir Gudang in Johor, Kuantan in Pahang, Klang in Selangor and Lahad Datu in Sabah, FPM has a production capacity of 850,000 tonnes per year. In addition to palm oil, FPM also supplies fertilisers for rubber, pineapple and paddy.

FPM,withitsproductioncapacity, performance and expertise, is in a good position to explore potential opportunities in the fertiliser and chemical industry in Malaysia and beyond.
