Lawsuit alleges ‘Frozen’ song was a rip-off

-

LOS ANGELES: The theme song from the Disney movie “Frozen,” “Let It Go,” was ripped off from a famous international artiste, it has been alleged.

He is now suing everyone even remotely connected with the smash hit.

Jaime Ciero claims in a new lawsuit “Let It Go” was inspired by his song, “Volar.” Ciero recorded the song in 2008 and it was played globally.

Ciero calls the song “a huge international success reaching millions of listeners and landing on numerous charts of the most popular, top-performing songs.”

Ciero says the striking similarities include note combinations, structures, hooks, melodies, lyrics, themes, production and textures.

He is suing Disney, Idina Menzel who recorded it for the movie, Demi Lovato who recorded the single and others.

If Ciero wins, the judgement could be humongous. He wants profits from the movie, the music, the marketing and anything commercial related to it.

Meanwhile, while no definite date has been fixed for the debut of ‘Frozen 2’, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” has premiered alongside Pixar’s “Coco”.

According to Roy Conli, producer of “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure”, the team wanted to evolve Josh Gad’s Olaf a little bit before handing him back over to the ‘Frozen 2’ team.

Speaking of “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure”, he said: “Technically, it’s a featurette.”

focuses on Olaf, the joyous snowman, as he learns about the holiday traditions of the citizens of Arendelle to give Elsa and Anna a tradition of their own.

On how the storyline came about, Conli said: “They (the directors) looked at every Christmas television special that had ever happened, going back to Perry Como specials and Osmond specials, and Bing Cosby specials. So they looked at that and said, ‘Could we kind of do a variety show on this?’”
