CCRIS is not to blacklist people from getting bank loans — BNM
KUCHING: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has denied its Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS) was blacklisting people from obtaining bank loans.
BNM LINK and Regional Offices director Datin Arlina Ariff clarified that CCRIS is actually a guide which provides individuals the details of their current loan, debt and payment history / records from various financial institutions.
“CCRIS is a summary report which gives guidance on how to manage your finances and your loans better. Not to blacklist any individuals,” said Arlina at a press conference on the sidelines of the state level Karnival Kewangan held at CityOne Megamall yesterday.
She added that CCRIS reports can be obtained at any state BNM branches or BNM headquarters via the person’s identity card and thumbprint verification.
BNM she added was also providing free advice and clarification services to those who do not understand the contents of their CCRIS report.
“Our BNM officers are always on hand to provide answers to any queries as well as financial advice through the “Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit” to anyone who walks-in to Bank Negara,” she added.
She added that commercial banks should update BNM on any loans which have been fully settled by their customers within three months for BNM to make updates to the individual’s CCRIS report.
“We are currently working to make it possible for people to obtain their CCRIS reports online,” said Arlina adding that the date of the new facility by BNM CCRIS would be announced in the near future.
Touching on the carnival which is being held from yesterday to tomorrow (Nov 26), Arlina said it serves to better educate the public on the roles of BNM, banking institutions and insurance agencies.
A total of 60 booths were set up including the newly launched Development Bank of Sarawak and the first state owned e-wallet, ‘Sarawak Pay’.
At the carnival, the public may also obtain their CCRIS report at the BNM booth which is located at the rear of the exhibition hall on level one of the mall.
