NABAWAN: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the government was always concerned and paid attention to the development of the rural areas so that they would be on par with the urban areas in terms of infrastructure and other basic amenities.

“This is my role as a leader in this area who always cares for the community, especially the Pensiangan people,” he said when opening the Meet-the-People session at Kampung Sigatal in Pagalungan here, yesterday.

He said the people could see the many changes that had been made to ensure that people could live comfortably.

Kurup, who is also Pensiangan member of parliament, said development would continue to be implemented for the wellbeing of the people.

He also urged residents in the area, including Kampung Sigatal, to remain committed and to give full support to ensure that Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates win in the 14th general election.

Kurup called on villagers to maintain unity and avoid disunity.

“The unity that exists today must be maintained to ensure that our village is always peaceful and harmonious. Villagers are also advised not to be easily affected by slander from unscrupulous parties.

“Villagers need to work to improve their standard of living by conducting various activities that can increase income. This area is rich in flora and fauna that can generate income, especially in the tourism sector.

“We have the advantage; use the advantage and do not let others take the opportunity,” he said.

Kurup, who is also Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) president received a total of 44 new PBRS members from Kampung Sigatal Lama and Kampung Sigatal Baru, during the event.

He also took the time to inspect the area and meet villagers to hear their problems.

Also present at the event were Pagalungan Native Chief Philip Antugi, Village Head Razali Ekok, SK Longongan headmaster Anis Pangias, PBRS Pagalungan liaison head Simon Ferus and community leaders.
