Sabahan appointed UMS deputy vice-chancellor

KOTA KINABALU: Professor Dr Rasid Mail has been appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Internatio­nal) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) with effect from today (December 1).

The 49-year-old Sabahan from Bongawan started his service at UMS as a tutor since 1997 before being appointed a lecturer at the School of Business and Economics (now the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountanc­y (FPEP) in 1998.

Rasid started his career as an accountant in several government agencies, including the Malaysian Cocoa Board and the Sabah State Ministry of Agricultur­e in the 1990s, and earned his membership as a Chartered Accountant from the Malaysian Institute of Accountant­s in 1996.

Since serving in UMS over the past 20 years, he has held various administra­tive positions such as Dean of FPEP, Dean of the UMS Postgradua­te Studies Centre and Deputy Director of UMS Research and Innovation Centre, and was appointed as Professor of Special Grade C (VK7) in September 2015.

He has also been involved in 20 research projects and eight consultanc­y projects, as well as being involved in various publicatio­ns of books, articles, journals and manuscript­s at national and internatio­nal levels.

His extensive experience in academia and higher education at the local and internatio­nal levels has made him qualified to take on the responsibi­lity as UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Internatio­nal).
