Over 1,000 to attend Women in Politics conference
KUALA LUMPUR: Over 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the ‘Women in Politics 2017' (WIPKL 2017) international conference which will be held at Putra World Trade Centre here for two days beginning Dec 3.
WIPKL 2017 organising chairman Datuk Nor Hayati Onn said the conference organised by Wanita Umno is a continuation of the WIPKL 2015 conference held two years ago at the ASEAN level.
“WIPKL this time is a platform to discuss the role, impact and opportunities of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) for women in terms of leadership and substantive equality.
“The conference is also an opportunity for the delegates to build new ties and encourage discussion of women issues and politics,” she told reporters here yesterday.
She said the conference with its theme ‘Women & IR 4.0: Leadership and Substantive Equality' is scheduled to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Umno president.
The WIPKL 2017 recommendations will focus on capitalising on opportunities presented by the IR 4.0, particularly on identifying opportunities of digital technology while eliminating discrimination against specific groups through women's leadership and representation.
It will also address the strategic and best practices to intensify women's leadership and representation in the legislative, community, public and corporate sectors.
Nor Hayati said the conference would be divided into two plenary sessions which include keynote addresses and panel discussions by foreign and local participants including United Nations Women Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Dr Miwa Kato.
