ISM Tawau students volunteer at animal shelter
TAWAU: Nine lecturers and 33 students from the Institute of Science and Management (ISM) Tawau gave a helping hand at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Tawau animal shelter recently.
The ISM Student Council led by student advisors Jaycie Lee and Alison Yong organised the event while Lim Kun Leong and Hong Yi Xing were the students responsible as the project organisers.
The purpose of the activity was to promote the peaceful coexistence of human beings and animals, as well as to give the students the opportunity to gain valuable insight on the spirit of community or society service and instil the spirit of volunteerism.
The students worked hard under the scorching hot sun to help clear clogged drains, eliminate weeds, reorganise spaces, clean feeding apparatus and tend to wounded canines while also giving them the love and affection they need.
The group also raised RM824 to buy necessities such as rice, dog food and mosquito repellents as well as donated old newspapers, old towels and other usable items to the SPCA animal shelter. The activity lasted about three hours.
SPCA Tawau expressed its gratitude to ISM for their dedication to the well-being of these vulnerable animals and hoped that such activities will spread awareness among the locals to protect all animals from suffering and abuse.
SPCA Tawau, a non-government and non-profit organisation, was established in August 2014. The organisation relies on donations from the community as well as income from fundraising sale to operate.
