Jobless man denies having stolen items, consuming syabu

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man was charged with seven counts of possessing stolen items and one count for consuming syabu in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Wan Ekrie Ahmad, 25, denied all the charges before magistrate Afiq Agoes.

On the first to the third charges, the undefended accused was alleged to have kept the chassis of stolen motorcycle­s at an unnumbered house at Kampung Baru in Luyang at 9.45 am on November 6.

On the fourth and fifth charges, he was alleged to have in his possession a wallet and a bag containing personal belonging and two identity cards believed stolen from a 23-year-old woman at the same time and place.

On the sixth and seventh charges, Wan Ekrie was alleged to have retained a stolen motorcycle engine and a driving license at the same time and place.

All the charges were framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carry a maximum jail of seven years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

On the eighth charge, the accused was alleged to have consumed syabu at the Penampang police station at 11.30 am on November 7, which is an offence under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39C of the same Act and punishable with a jail term of up to seven years and whipping, upon conviction.

In view of his plea, the court fixed December 11, 12 and 13 for re-mention of the cases and denied bail to the accused.
