KOTA KINABALU: Some 2,800 Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students attended the Transformasi Nasional 50 (TN50) dialogue with Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chief Yamani Hafez Musa yesterday.

Yamani encouraged the students to share their aspirations so that they could be considered to be part of the TN50.

He also said that Sabah, with her over 30 ethnic groups must ensure that the voice of each of these groups was represented so that they would also enjoy developments that would take place later.

Yamani, who was at the dialogue held at the university’s Dewan Al-Bukhari, Ujana Sarjana near here yesterday, also said that the approach taken for the TN50 was different from the Vision 2020 which would end in three years.

“The TN50 considers the opinion of the people first, while Vision 2020 takes a top-down approach which does not consider the people’s opinions,” he said.

Nevertheless, TN50 was the the continuation of the Vision 2020, he said.

Among the issues raised by the students taking part in the dialogue were on education, public transportation, disabled people friendly facilities and also job opportunities.

Concerns over the social media was also raised and the issue of morality, where one student lamented the attitude of students leaving their plastic cups and plates on tables after finishing up with them instead of bringing the utensils to the designated area.

With regard to public transportation, several students lamented Sabah’s lack of such facility and stressed the need to have disabled and elderly friendly public transportation, while another suggested railways to be set up throughout Sabah to ease people’s travels.

Yamani said UiTM was part of the destination of his roadshow as he was an alumni at the university.

“The TN50 is a public driven policy and involves everyone,” he said.
