State PKR eyeing 15 seats in GE14
KUCHING: The upcoming general election is expected to see PKR contesting in 15 out of the 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak.
State PKR vice-chairman See Chee How said discussions on seat allocation between the three Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak component parties PKR, Amanah and DAP - have gone smoothly.
“For now, we are eyeing 15 seats which PKR contested in the 13th general elections.
“And we have shortlisted our candidates for all the 15 seats while the announcement of the final candidates will be made before election,” he told reporters at the PKR Stampin service centre here yesterday.
The 15 seats that PKR contested in the last general election are Santubong, Petra Jaya, Mambong, Batang Lupar, Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, Betong, Saratok, Julau, Selangau, Hulu Rajang, Miri, Baram, Limbang and Kanowit.
Out of the 15, PKR only won Miri, through Dr Michael Teo.
See, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman, said PKR’s potential candidates also included some of those who had contested in GE13.
Asked if he is one of the shortlisted candidates, he replied, “I cannot say no.”
On speculations that he might be fielded in Miri he said: “Please, don’t speculate. Speculation will have no end.”
PH Sarawak, which was officially formed in September, is currently led by state DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen as the coalition’s chairman.
Chong, who is Bandar Kuching MP, is assisted by three deputies; namely PKR Sarawak chairman Baru Bian, Amanah Sarawak chairman Mohd Fidzuan Zaidi and DAP Sarawak deputy chairman Chiew Chin Sing.
See is one of the state election committee members.
