Strong economy, political environment attract investors — Mustapa

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s strong economic and stable political environment will strengthen investor’s confidence and continue to attract foreign investments into the country, said Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He brushed off the perception that the coming 14th General Election would provide uncertainty to the market and influence the investors’ confidence, saying the current policies and businessfriendly government under the Barisan Nasional had paved the way for positive business outlook in Malaysia.

“The foreign investors have identified the Malaysian government’s pro-investor and pro-business policies, among them, the National Transformation 2050, 11th Malaysia Plan and the Economic Transformation Programme.

“This is something investors want to see. Malaysia, under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, has succeeded in creating economic and political stability, which the opposition does not have,” he told the media after attending Persidangan Kepimpinan Mahasiswa Nasional (Pemanas) here yesterday.

Earlier, Mustapa was at a dialogue session with the university students.

According to Mustapa, the opposition did not have a clear policy and the government feared that it would reduce the inflow of foreign investors into the country.

“It is unclear that their policies, some of them are to the left and others to the right ... Malaysians are not clear where the opposition wants to take us.

“But under the Barisan Nasional leadership, there is no such thing as the decline in investors’ confidence. On the converse, yesterday (Thursday) we saw investors from Japan coming to the country and Malaysia will continue its programmes to attract more investors,” Mustapa said.

Recently, Mustapa was reported as saying that some 10 Japanese companies were working projects here valued at RM600 million.

The projects, according to him, ranged from electronics and machinery to chemicals.

Meanwhile, the dialogue session, themed ‘Mahasiswa Arkitek Alaf Baru’ attracted 350 students from local and private universities nationwide to discuss various issues related to youths, especially university students.
