UiTM Sabah alumni urged to contribute to education fund
KOTA KINABALU: The 1 Billion Education Fund (TP1B) kicked off Budi Ride, its 10-parcel national cycling event at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sabah here, yesterday.
TP1B chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok said the program was the second after its 2015 charity dinner, which had raised nearly RM10 million for UiTM.
“The funds are used to improve the quality of learning through scholarship assistance,” said Lodin at a press conference during the event here yesterday.
“We hope with this fund, it will more or less help the government and UiTM to reduce the yearly burden to finance Bumiputera students to study in the campus,” he added.
At the same time, Lodin called upon more UiTM Sabah alumni who had been successful in obtaining aid through TP1B to contribute in the quest to help the less fortunate.
Echoing Lodin’s sentiment, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said Budi Ride was a symbolic effort to instil awareness among Bumiputeras, especially the UiTM alumni, to contribute to TP1B.
“The issue is not the amount contributed but our intention and desire to help the Bumiputeras in need,” said Masidi.
The minister said many UiTM alumni of today were successful and held important positions in both government and private sectors.
“I also think that the meaning of success is to help more people to reach success,” said Masidi, who is also a member of the TP1B board of trustees.
Masidi hopes that more UiTM Sabah alumni will take up the challenge to lend a helping hand through TP1B in order to generate more successful Sabahans both in education and in careers.
