With the drop in the value of pound sterling, it is now cheaper to study in United Kingdom than in Australia, according to Sam Gross, a representa ve of St Andrew’s College of Cambridge.

SANDAKAN: With the drop in the value of pound sterling, it is now cheaper to study in United Kingdom than in Australia, according to Sam Gross a representative of St Andrew’s College of Cambridge.

Gross said there is often a misconception that the UK is the most expensive place for Malaysians to further their studies but that is no longer the case anymore.

“Although the Malaysian Ringgit is not at its strongest state now, the UK pound has also dropped, making it more affordable to study in the UK.

“A UK study course is also generally shorter compared to other countries. For example, one could get a Master’s Degree within four years in the UK after SPM, but it would take six years in the United States of America. Shorter study duration equals lower cost,” he explained.

Gross said this when met at the EduQuest Education Fair held at Sandakan Hotel here yesterday.

He also disclosed that St Andrew’s College’s biggest advantage is that it concentrates on each student and no one gets left out.

“There will only be six to seven students per group. We will also provide one-on-one tuition for each student so they will definitely get individual attention in St Andrew’s College. Ninety-eight per cent of the students are also not from UK, so students from Malaysia usually adapt to the environment well.

“We are also located at a peaceful and safe location. It is an academic city so it is perfect for the students,” Gross added.

St Andrew’s College offers GCSEs, Pre A-Level and ALevels as well as Foundation Courses including Business, Law, Economics, International Relations, Science, Engineering, Psychology, Earth Sciences, Art and Architecture.

The EduQuest Education Fair will be continued in the Pacific Sutera Hotel in Kota Kinabalu today, My Inn Hotel, Lahad Datu on December 4 and Promenade Hotel, Tawau on December 5. Opening hours are from 1pm to 5pm and 2pm to 6pm in Tawau. Admission is free of charge.

Local and overseas universities offering a wide range of courses will be at the fair. The main objective of this event is to provide an opportunity for parents and students to speak directly to the representatives from the universities and get a better idea on planning for their future education.

SPM/UEC/STPM/ALevels students and Diploma holders are invited to attend this roadshow. Students are advised to bring along their forecast or actual result slips and relevant documents for on-the-spot assessment and registration.

Scholarship, PTPTN and other financial schemes are available. Application or registration fees will be waived for some participating universities for students who enrolled during the event. There will also be lucky draws and door gifts for visitors.
