KOTA KINABALU: Open University Malaysia (OUM) offers RM1 million in scholarships to new students and its alumni for 2018.

OUM (Planning and Strategy) vice president Professor Ramli Bahroom said the program was part of the university’s initiative to motivate more people to raise their academic qualifications in Malaysia.

“Hopefully all graduates can take this opportunity by continuing to register as OUM students for the next study session. This is because OUM offers scholarships for alumni,” he said.

“For 2018, we offer scholarships of RM1 million for new and existing students as our commitment to national development,” added Ramli at the 21st OUM Convocation ceremony at Menara Tun Mustapha here yesterday.

Ramli said OUM had established 31 learning centres throughout Malaysia to increase life long learning access to the people.

The university also offers educational programs in more than 10 countries to strategic partnerships, and this had produced around 11,000 graduates.

According to Ramli, this year’s ceremony marked the second time OUM has held convocations at six different locations besides Kuala Lumpur.

He said organizing the convocation ceremonies in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Terengganu, Penang, Kuching and here were done to cater to its diverse graduates who were mostly working adults.
