Matunggong, Tandek benefit most from longhouse fund

-

MATUNGGONG: Matunggong and Tandek are major beneficiaries of the longhouses development, reconstruction and repair in Sabah.

“No other district or constituency benefited so much. This is on top of the normal housing for the poor,” said Kota Marudu member of parliament Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, yesterday.

He noted that at least 525 families in the two areas have benefited from the project costing about RM27 million from allocation channelled through the Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) and Rural and Regional Development Ministry over the last six years.

The Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister added that the houses were meant for the lower income group, especially those under the low income group or Bottom 40 per cent (B40) category.

“The B40 group continues to be the Barisan Nasional’s priority,” he said after visiting four newly repaired longhouses here.

Also present was Sabah Development director Datuk Ruji Ubi.

To date, 34 longhouses have either been upgraded, repaired or newly built in Kota Marudu and here.

“Of the 34 longhouses, 27 are new longhouses, while the rest were either upgraded or repaired.

“We are expecting at least a dozen more to be rebuilt or repaired in the coming two years for constituents in Kota Marudu and here,” he said.
