Parents seek justice over death of son

KOTA KINABALU: Persatuan Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia President Peer Mohamad on Thursday officially lodged a police report at the Karamunsing police station here requesting for a thorough investigation on the untimely death of a worker from India.

Its Sabah Chapter president, Peer Mohamad, said the lifeless body of Syed Abdul Mubarak was found hanging from a tree last Tuesday at a village in Semporna.

“The parents of the victim, Mohamad Gahni and Fatimah BV who are residing in India do not believe that their son Syed reportedly committed suicide ... it is for this reason that they approached me to request a thorough police investigation to determine the motive and death of the victim,” Peer said.

He said the victim arrived in Sabah last year and was legally employed as a chef in one of the Indian restaurants in Semporna.

The untimely death of Syed was publicised in major newspapers and media outlets in India, Peer claimed.

“I was made to undestand by the parents that Syed received death threats several weeks prior to the unfortunate incident ... the parents could not find any reason why their son would take his own life,” he told the police while providing some recorded communication evidences of the victim and the parents.

While seeking justice for the death of Syed, Peers said the parents had expressed optimism that Sabah police would ultimately know the cause and motive of the isolated case apart from putting the suspects behind bars if there is any.
