Jamal arrested over threats against Zaid

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has been arrested over threats he made to former de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.

The Sungai Besar Umno division chief was picked up by police officers after he attended the Umno general assembly at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday evening.

He arrived at the Dang Wangi police headquarters in an unmarked police car at about 9.25pm.

Jamal was led into the station in handcuffs.

“I have been arrested by the police and will be taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

“This is in relation to the Zaid Ibrahim issue,” he said.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah said Jamal would be investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.

Section 504 deals with intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace while Section 14 deals with the offence of insulting behavior.

The case would be investigated by the Kuala Lumpur contingent.

On Friday, Jamal said he would “hunt down” Zaid if the authorities did not arrest him over his remark allegedly insulting the Selangor Ruler.

“I will personally hunt him down. I know where he lives,” he was reported as saying.

Zaid had tweeted on Monday (Dec 4) that the Ruler should be “careful” with his words and that everyone would be affected if “the country burns”.

His tweets are believed to have been in response to the Sultan’s statements where he warned that the deliberate use of sensitive issues to fish for votes in the general election would destroy the country.
