Sabah Games Village promotes unity

-

SANDAKAN: Sabah Games Village could be a catalyst to promote unity amongst personnel and athletes, said Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Masiung Banah.

Masiung said the SAGA Village is not only a place for contingents to plan their respective strategies, but also a place to forge friendship among the different contingents.

“Sports villages are places to boost the sporting spirit and a place to plan and execute strategies to achieve extraordinary results.

“However, the name is called village for a reason - as a family and as friends, we must not differentiate each other based on our race or religion. What’s important is the unity amongst us,” Masiung said during the launching ceremony of SAGA Village at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) here, yesterday.

Also present were Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk James Wong, permanent secretary of Youth and Sports Ministry Datuk Awang Damit Awang Anak, and general manager of Sabah Sports Council Terence Edward Pudin.

Earlier, Datuk Wong said that a total of 953 athletes, coaches and personnel are staying at the MRSM here.

“We are able to fit so many people in MRSM. I was told that this number (953) is actually more than the number of MRSM students staying there.

“We have worked hard to prepare the best accommodation for all contingents,” he added.
