Man charged with robbing cashier of entertainm­ent outlet

KOTA KINABALU: A man was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday with robbing a woman of RM4,356.70 in cash.

Mohd Hasyim Hamsi, 20, who was brought before judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at an entertainm­ent outlet in a shopping mall here at 1.40am on November 26.

He had used a machete in committing the offence framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code and read together under Section 397 of the same Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years jail and whipping, on conviction.

However, the court fixed January 11 next year for mention, pending his social report.

Mohd Hasyim is further detained in custody, pending disposal of the case.

The facts of the case stated that a complainan­t lodged a police report at 4.45am on a robbery at the entertainm­ent outlet in a shopping mall here on the same day.

The complainan­t, who is an employee at the entertainm­ent outlet in the shopping mall here, saw a man (the accused) loitering in the premises.

At first, she thought that the accused was a customer and went out from a room to see him.

As she opened a door, the accused suddenly held her hand and showed a 17cm long machete to her.

The accused told the complainan­t not to make any noise and asked for money.

In fear, the complainan­t brought him to the cashier and the accused took the money from the petty cash and escaped.

Deputy public prosecutor Umar Faiz appeared for the prosecutio­n while counsel Amanda Leonie represente­d the accused.
