Kota Marudu lad wins cycling gold medal
SANDAKAN: Kota Marudu cyclist Joshua Mairon contributed a gold medal for his hometown after winning the Cross Country Olympic category in the cycling event of the VIII Sabah Games (SAGA) held at Taman Nasalim yesterday.
Joshua clocked 1 hour 12 minutes and 24 seconds over 20.7 kilometres.
Meanwhile, Rainal Lim from Keningau won the silver medal with a time of 1 hour 12 minutes and 42 seconds while Zul Erlfan Jasilin@Jaslin grabbed the bronze medal with 1 hour 12 minutes and 53 seconds.
For the women’s category, the gold medal was won by Ainie Markus from Keningau with a recorded finish time of 1 hour 16 seconds.
Meanwhile, the silver medal was won by Ev Angel Willborn with a finishing time of 1 hour 51 seconds while the third place was won by Evvy Olivia Anton under 1 hour 7 minutes 47 seconds. Both Ev and Evvy represented Kota Belud.
As for the Cross Country Team Relay, the Kota Belud team represented by Zul Erlfan Jasilin@ Jaslin, Ev Angel Willborn, Evvy Olivia Anton and Derrick Lin Kok Heng won the gold medal with a recorded time of 36 minutes and 22 seconds.
The second place was won by the Keningau team represented by Rainal Lim, Ainie Markus, Arni Sanuddin and Benny Tam Min Fat with a recorded time of 40 minutes and 47 seconds.
Beaufort, represented by Rowie Len Joon Szen, Dayang Ina Shazlyana Suhaimi and Chung Shean Fah, settled for bronze with 44 minutes and 3 seconds.
The medals were presented by Assistant District Officer of Beaufort, Haji Jupri Elok, Sabah Cycling Association president Raijas Anang and Sandakan Cycling Association president Hazly Nasri.
