KOTA KINABALU: Youths in the State are advised to be more pro-active in keeping up with current developments, particularly on issues involving youth development in the country.

Political secretary to the Chief Minister, Datuk Haji Nizam DSP Haji Abu Bakar Titingan, said this when opening the 21st general meeting of the Sabah Youth Council at Promenade Hotel in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

In his speech, Nizam said that the youths should think more positively and actively assist the government in efforts to develop the youths through job opportunities and economy provided by the government.

He added that the state government under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman, had allocated funds amounting to RM15.35 million for youth and sports development in Sabah.

He said youths can also do small scale jobs such as Uber and Grab services or any jobs that are suited to their needs to earn a living. He added that youths should always be farsighted and not influenced by issues or social problems that could hamper their future.

Nizam said he is confident that youths nowadays are more educated and highly intelligent. They should, therefore, not squander the knowledge that they have, as they are the next generation of leadership for the state and the nation.

Among those present at the event were the Sabah Youth Council president, Nourman @ Rayn Datuk Dr. Awang Zaini, Federal Department of Youth and Sports deputy director Lamat Anak Nyalau and the Malaysian Youth Council’s secretary general, Ahmad Yusof Saparuddin.
