Govt recognises Murut as a race – Ellron

-

KENINGAU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak always recognises the position of the Sabah Murut, on par with other Bumiputera races in the state, said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin.

He said many of that community’s needs had been addressed by the government, including providing various opportunities and facilities in various sectors as had been given to other races in the country.

“Many achievements have been attained by this race... the number of Murut graduates are increasing, many are holding positions at the decision-making level, businessmen, politicians and professionals.. all these are realised by the government,” he said at the book launch of DSP Ontoros @ Antenom entitled “Pahlawan Terbilang Bangsa Murut” (Mighty Warrior of the Murut) here yesterday.

The 148-page book, which narrated the struggles of warrior Ontoros @ Antenom against the British colonialists in Rundum in 1915, was produced by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Centre for Promotion of Knowledge and Language Studies senior lecturer Datuk Dr Dayu Sansalau.

Ellron said the successes of Murut’s community in various fields, including within and outside the country, were also recognised and noted by the government.

“We should be grateful because the government is constantly looking at developing and helping this race in times of needs,” said Ellron who is also Sook assemblyman.
