Prove 500 are MCA members — Kapayan East branch

-

KOTA KINABALU: Former committee member of MCA Kapayan East branch, Ricky Woon has rubbished claims that 500 members of the branch have joined Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan).

Woon said the MCA Kapayan East branch was still in the process of setting up and had only 350 members to date.

“Where does the 500 MCA members who jumped ship come from?”

Six months ago, he said around 300 individuals led by Eric Vun had expressed their interest in joining MCA Kapayan East branch.

However, Woon said MCA had a very stringent membership application process whereby applicants were required to fill in the membership forms themselves and produce their fingerprints.

Woon said he had sent out several reminders asking the 300 individuals to verify their identities and document their fingerprints at MCA Kapayan East branch yet no one came forth in the past six months.

“We are lucky to hear that these people have joined Warisan.

“They will certainly be a ticking time bomb for the Kapayan East branch if we have accepted these 500 unprincipled individuals into MCA.”

Woon reiterated that MCA Kapayan East branch only had 350 registered members, each possessing MCA membership document.

As such, he challenged Vun to produce proof of the 500 individuals’ MCA membership.

Woon said Warisan should not use MCA as a tool to elevate the party in its process of recruiting members.

“Since Penampang member of parliament Darell Leiking has jumped ship from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to Warisan, he no longer appears in Kapayan, much less hoping that he will serve the people in this constituency.

“There have been many incidences of flood and fire in Kapayan this year, but we do not see Warisan leaders assisting the rakyat on the ground.

“Instead, Darell Leiking has gone to Semporna to meet fire victims there.”

He reminded Voo that the Kapayan state seat was won by Democratic Action Party (DAP).

Hence, he believed that the 500 individuals who joined Warisan would split the opposition votes in the constituency and perhaps paved the way for victory for MCA.

Woon was commenting on the 500 former MCA leaders led by its former Kapayan East branch youth leader, Eric Vun who handed their membership application forms to Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal here on Sunday night.
