Hajiji celebrates golden jubilee of former alma mater

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Tuaran celebrated its 50th anniversary yesterday.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Haji Noor, who is a product of the school, attributed his present success to the school, saying that if he had not attended the school, he might have taken a different path altogether.

“I might not even be a minister today,” he said.

“I was there until Form Three, after which I attended St John’s in Tuaran since GJSS only provided studies up to Form Three level then,” he said.

He recollected that the condition of his school then was a far cry from what it is today.

“I had to wake up at 4.30 am and be ready to walk to school by 5am,” he said.

He also remembered showering using water taken from a well in those days.

With regard to the Golden Jubilee celebration, Hajiji described it as a memorable occasion and expressed his gratitude to his teachers and headmistress for their contributions to his development.

He added that it was important for students to use the knowledge they acquire in school for the betterment of themselves, their family, their State and the country.

“As long as we live, contribute for betterment,” he advised.
