Allow mosques, churches to be used as tuition centres — MP

-

KOTA KINABALU: Religious leaders in every village in Sepanggar constituency have been encouraged to allow buildings of worshiping such as mosques and churches to be tuition centres.

Its member of parliament, Datuk Jumat Idris, said discussions had been made with the religious leaders and they understood the need for a proper place for children to have extra classes after school, especially preparing for exams.

“Some villages have a community hall, while some don’t have. Tuition classes can be conducted in these halls, but in some villages, buildings of worshiping are the most suitable.

“At the Sepanggar parliamentary office we always give priority to the young children to get the best of education.

“We have funds to hire teachers for them, and we always give priority to qualified undergraduate students from UMS and UiTM to teach,” he said this to reporters after launching ‘Back To School’ programme at the Manggatal community hall yesterday.

Earlier at the event, Jumat urged parents to always monitor their children’s activities and not to forget that their children were under their full responsibility.

At school, Jumat said teachers should be focusing on teaching, while the other matters such as disciplining them should start at home.

After delivering his speech before 1,000 parents and teachers who attended the event, Jumat handed over school bags to all the recipients present at the hall.
