Associatio­n to hold grand CNY celebratio­n Feb 3

KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Chinese Communitie­s Associatio­n of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK), during its committee meeting held at Wisma Pendidikan here, has set up organizing committees for the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival and Chinese Cultural Village Exhibition 2018.

USCCAKK president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen is the chairperso­n of the annual grand event. Hainan Associatio­n Kota Kinabalu president Ng Young Wah, is appointed as the organizing chairman for the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival while Sabah Eng Choon Associatio­n president Baby Gan will lead the organizing committee for the Chinese Cultural Village Exhibition.

The event will be held at Likas Sports Complex on February 3, 2018 starting from 8 am to 7 pm.

The USCCAKK committee has decided to invite Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman to be the guest of honour to officiate the opening ceremony of Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival.

The associatio­n will also invite Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide, to officiate the opening ceremony of Chinese Cultural Village Exhibition.

Susan said the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival had been held for more than 30 years and had become a signature event of USCCAKK.

“The Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival is not only an important event for the associatio­n, but also an activity that is much celebrated by the Chinese community.”

As the president of the 15 community associatio­ns under USCCAKK, Wong urged her committee members and organizing teams to work hand in hand to make this meaningful cultural event a great success. She hoped the Chinese community would also support and attend the event.

She said the Chinese Cultural Village Exhibition would showcase a variety of Chinese New Year pastries and renowned Chinese tea.

“The 15 Chinese community associatio­ns will also present a Cheongsam catwalk contest.”

In addition, she said the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival had attracted the participat­ion of over 100 troupes to perform the Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dances.

Meanwhile, Susan expressed gratitude to the State Government, Consul of China, all the sponsors and the Chinese community for their continuous support and assistance which enabled the associatio­n to hold this annual event year after year.
