KENINGAU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government is obliged to plan development programs to help the less fortunate people improve their family's standard of living and comfort.

Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Haji Sairin Karno said through the government departments and agencies concerned, various aid programs had been channeled, among them home repair programs, to targeted poor families.

“Some 100 houses in the Keningau parliamentary constituency covering Tambunan, Bingkor and Liawan areas were part of the program,” he said when visiting the implementation of the program in Kampung Jaya Baru, Padang Tembak and Linsosod in Liawan area on Monday.

Sairin said the implementation of the program was funded by the Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department and coordinated by the district office.

He said that apart from the home repair program under the ICU, there were also provisions allocated under Felcra and Mara to help the less fortunate.

During the visit, Sairin presented food and hampers to the families involved.

Also in attendance were assistant district officer (development), Ahmad Shah Tan Sri Sunoh, Liawan community development leader Sahanip Jamil, heads of government departments and community leaders.
