Sabah bring home three silver
Sabah returned with three silver medals from the 5th Gavrila Interna onal Ar s c Gymnas cs Invita onal tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah returned with three silver medals from the 5th Gavrila International Artistic Gymnastics Invitational tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia recently.
Comprising young athletes hoping to make the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2018, the state gymnasts Felicity Grace Sep Pei En, Ammanda Wong Yeah Chean and Nur Farisha Atiqah Shuaili did not disappoint.
Felicity was the toast of the squad by winning three silver medals including in the Team Event with Ammanda and Nur Farisha.
She also added an individual silver from the Balance Beam and Vault events.
Team manager cum coach Liew Tong Ee described the outing as a success despite not returning with any gold.
Tong Ee instead said the experienced gained was of utmost importance as the young athletes continued their progress.
“The tournaments saw gymnasts from the hosts Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.
“It has been a very good tournament for our athletes... very good exposure for them,” he texted yesterday.
Having said that, Tong Ee hoped the achievements of the artistic gymnastic squad in various tournaments this year has caught the attention of the Sabah Sports Council (MSN Sabah), who will decide which sports will go to Sukma.
“This group of gymnast girls also won the Team event in the National Circuit in from November 17 to 20. Apart from that, they also finished second in the National Championship in early November.
“We are aiming for these girls to go to Sukma next year. Hopefully, the MSN Sabah can see our results,” he said.
Towards this end, Tong Ee expressed thanks to the Youth and Sports Ministry, MSN Sabah, Sabah Gymnastics Association, coaches and parents for their support all this while.
