LABUAN: Over 80 caring Labuanites came forward to rally behind a blood donation drive organized by Repsol Oil & Gas Malaysia Limited last Saturday.

The recent campaign was held as part of Repsol’s annual Volunteer Week activities in which its staff initiated a charitable cause to make a difference to the community around where they work and live.

It was a collaboration with the blood bank of Labuan Hospital and Labuan Corporation to replenish the blood bank supplies in view of the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. This marks the second year running that Repsol’s Labuan staff had run a similar drive. And in walking the talk, many Repsol staff generously volunteered to donate as well.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Repsol’s senior management representative, Phat Beatty, reiterated the company’s passion about giving back to the local community where they operate.

“We take our responsibilities as a good corporate citizen seriously, and actively organize programmes and activities that promote change and elevate the wellbeing of the local communities with government agencies and non-governmental organisations (or NGOs) in Peninsular, Sabah and Labuan.”

Beatty said they were pleased to report that these programmes which focus on four main themes, namely, education, safety, health and capacity building, have benefited thousands of Malaysians.

Labuan Hospital blood bank officer, Mohd Faizal Yusuf, who spoke at the event, expressed his appreciation to Repsol and its staff for the noble cause towards humanity.

“There is still no substitute for blood. It only comes from generous donors and today we are most grateful to Repsol and those who have graciously given the gift of life,” he remarked.
