Body of bullet-riddled Filipino found

TAWAU: A Filipino man was found dead with eight gunshot wounds on the body beside the hall of Datuk Musa Plantation Complex, Ladang Seraya, Kalabakan near here yesterday morning.

Tawau police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said Kalabakan police station received a call from a Ladang Seraya security guard that the body of a man was found lying in a corner of the hall at about 9am.

At about 8am, a supervisor who arrived at the location to give routine briefing to plantation workers found the man’s body and alerted the security guard,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

According to Fadil, police rushed to the location and found the body had eight gunshot wounds, one on the left of his chest and seven bullet wounds at the back.

“There were no other injuries and the victim was believed shot with a shotgun,” he said, adding the 21-year-old victim from Jolo, Philippine­s, identified as Almasir Julion, had just begun working as an oil palm loader four months ago and lived with relatives in the workers’ quarters in Ladang Seraya.

Fadil said based on the statements of the witnesses, the supervisor confirmed the victim went out at about 8pm to a friend’s house for dinner and by 10pm the victim had not returned until his body was found.

According to Fadil, police were still investigat­ing the motive of the incident and the body had been sent to Tawau Hospital for post-mortem.
