Ascot students take part in hotel’s carolling, charity
KOTA KINABALU: As December is the month of celebration and giving, Ascot’s student Council and Alumni Association have organised and participated in two major activities, namely the Annual Christmas Carolling Activity and Charity Activity organised by Hotel Shangri-la Kota Kinabalu at Rumah Bakti Harapan.
The carolling activity which was organised by Ascot’s Student Council is an annual tradition for Ascot Academy since 2013. The carolling team was made up of 32 talented Ascot’s Hospitality and Culinary students and it was led by Marsiana Lobius, one of the Academy’s lecturers from the Hospitality Department.
For this year, the team belted out five Christmas carolsongs entitled Away in the Manger, Mozou Hozou (Kadazan Song), Joy to the World, Feliz Navidad and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
To make the event merrier the students have incorporated other musical creativities such as guitar and cajon to complement their carolling.
For four days, the carolling team started its performance with industry partners at Kota Kinabalu City. The hotels were Grandis Hotels & Resort, Sabah Oriental Hotel, Promenade Hotel, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, Hilton Kota Kinabalu and Mercure Kota Kinabalu City Centre.
For the last day, the carolling team performed at the Academy itself and the surrounding establishments at 1 Borneo Hypermall such as Tune Hotel, Medisinar Clinic, Klagan Regency Hotel and Astro Radio. Positive feedbacks and encouragements were received from all the participating hotels and businesses.
The next event was a charity activity with one of Ascot’s Industry partners, Hotel Shangrila Kota Kinabalu at Rumah Bakti Harapan.
Rumah Bakti Harapan is located at Inanam that provides home for Orphanages, Children with down syndromes and with special disabilities. There were 12 personnel from Hotel ShangriLa Kota Kinabalu including their General Manager, Krishnan Mogan and 18 students, Alumnus and personnel from Ascot Academy involved in this activity.
Other than contribution of food items by the Hotel and Magic Performance by Sabah Magician Club, Lawrence Tan, the residents of Rumah Bakti Harapan were entertained by Ascot’s Carollers with Christmas Carol songs, Sumazau Dance and Christmas Home Cookies gift by Ascot’s alumnus, Ahmid Shafwan.
Ginantar Balud who is the chairman of Rumah Bakti Harapan was grateful with the contributions and the residents were happy and appreciative of the activities and entertainment.
