Prostituti­on: Woman fined, another jailed

KOTA KINABALU: A woman from China was fined RM4,000, in default, six months in jail for soliciting for the purpose of prostituti­on.

Li Siqi, 25, pleaded guilty before senior assistant registrar Herlina Muse, who sat as a magistrate, to the charge read to her yesterday.

She committed the offence in a room, at the seventh floor of a hotel here at 6pm on December 14.

She was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to a year, or a fine, or to both, upon conviction.

In Tawau, a 33-year-old woman was jailed for five months by a Magistrate’s Court yesterday to soliciting for the purpose of prostituti­on.

Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene imposed the sentence on Memi Bte Kassim who was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused was arrested for committing the offense at a daily rented room at Dunlop Road on December 11, 2017 at about 3.34pm.

A police team raided the room and found the accused with a male customer. Police also found RM50 cash and an unused condom believed for prostituti­on purpose.

At the same court, a 35-year-old woman who caused hurt to her exhusband’s wife was fined RM5,000 in default 18 months’ jail.

Ilmawati bte Salam was found guilty of the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for three years’ jail or a fine or caning upon conviction.

The accused used a high heels shoe to hit the face of Haddie bte Saripuddin, 34, during a quarrel on October 21, 2016 at about 8.30pm at a rented flat at Chester Road.

The victim went to the rented flat to collect rent when she was confronted by the accused who scolded her for causing the divorce. The victim was married to the accused’s ex-husband in 2012 and the accused always quarrelled and threatened to hurt the victim.
