Duo fined, another two jailed for injuring labourer

KOTA KINABALU: Four men were convicted by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday of a joint charge of injuring a labourer.

Senior assistant registrar Herlina Muse, who presided as a magistrate, fined Shahizuan Ibrahim and Molimin Kasan RM2,000 each, in default, two months’ jail while Raymond Gilot and Doughles Kadoh were each jailed for two months.

The four accused persons pleaded guilty to their joint charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

Shahizuan, 31, Molimin, 28, Raymond, 31 and Doughles, 22, admitted to causing hurt to the 21-year-old victim at Padang Merdeka here on November 18.

Meanwhile, Doughles was jailed for another five years by the same court for carrying a knife in a public place.

The court also ordered the accused to be given one stroke of the cane after he admitted to a charge under Section 6 of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

The indictment carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Doughles was apprehende­d for carrying the dangerous weapon in front of a building here on December 6.

The court ordered him to serve his jail term concurrent­ly with his earlier jail sentence.

The accused, who hails from Kota Marudu, told the court that he had just arrived in town in September and claimed that he had no knowledge of the law.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector Mohd Rasydan Jasni urged the court to impose an appropriat­e sentence on the accused.
