Errant entertainm­ent owner fined

KOTA KINABALU: An entertainm­ent outlet owner was fined RM15,000, in default, six months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for operating his premises beyond the permitted hours.

Senior assistant registrar Herlina Muse, who sat as a magistrate, imposed the fine on Lim Shiuh Kaan, 43, after he admitted to a charge under Section 4 (1) of the Public Entertainm­ent Ordinance which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or a maximum jail term of one year, or both, upon conviction.

The accused was arrested for committing the offence at a karaoke and lounge at Damai Plaza in Luyang on December 14.

Prosecutin­g officer Inspector Mohd Rasydan Jasni told the court that when the police raided the premises it was still operating as the customers were still having fun inside and the music was still loud.

The same court jailed a jobless man for 30 days for possessing stolen copper wires.

Herlina imposed the sentence on Mohd Azidi Abd Rashid, 30, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance.

The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM100 or a jail term of up to three months, or both, upon conviction.

Mohd Azidi was arrested for possessing a gunnysack of copper wires of various types believed to be stolen items, at the backyard of a house in Taman Kuala Manggatal here at 9.45am on Decemver 17.
