Uncle in custody for sodomising teenage niece

KUCHING: A student from SK Temenggong Matang claims she was sexually harassed by her uncle on several occasions at their family home in Kampung Matang, Batu 10, Jalan Matang here three years ago.

The girl who is now 12 years old, claimed that her uncle’s heinous act started when she was eight years old and stopped when she turned nine.

According to Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the suspect is currently under remand for seven days and the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

“The suspect, a 21 year old male, pleaded not guilty in the magistrates court here yesterday,” said Aidil adding that the victim is currently warded at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for observation and care.

Early investigations revealed that the uncle had snuck into the girl’s bedroom where the act took place on more than one occasion. The victim according to the police however kept quiet about the incident due to fear.

The victim had however kept it a secret for years until she was forced by her mother on Thursday morning (Dec 21) to tell the truth as to why she is complaining of wanting to leave her father’s house - the victim’s parent was divorced in 2010.

Besides the victim, two other siblings are also living with their father and the suspect.

The victim also complained to her mother of feeling a painful sensation at her private part every time she urinates, which prompted her mother to send her for a medical check-up at the SGH.

The victim however cannot confirm if there was any penetration. Medical checks have also shown no tear to her hymen.
