Moyog win Shorinji Kempo Inter-Branch Tournament

KOTA KINABALU: Moyog branch emerged as the overall winners of the Shorinji Kempo Inter-Branch Tournament that was held here, last weekend.

The tournament which was held at the Iramanis Inanam main dojo on December 16 and 17 saw Moyog bag four gold medals, five silvers and three bronzes.

Inanam branch was second with three gold and two silver medals, while Tuaran finished third with three gold medals and one silver.

The two-day programme with a refresher course for judges and referees while the preliminar­y round for the competitio­n was held on Dec 16.

The refresher course was attended by senior referees and judges from the Sabah Shorinji Kempo Associatio­n.

Kenshis from Kota Marudu, Inanam, Putatan, Kota Kinabalu and Penampang also took part in the tournament.

Participan­ts competed in the Tanen and Dantai Kihon, Kumi Embu and Sotai. The tournament focused mainly on techniques and forms where judges led by senior master sensei Bobby Wang awarded points. No Randori or free sparring event was slotted for this year's tournament.

Categories from Junior kids up to senior yudansa were contested.

Meanwhile, grand master sensei David Wang, who presented medals and prizes said he was pleased with the support given by all participat­ing branches. He said there would be more tournament­s focussing on Tanen and Kumi Embu to be held next year.

Sabah Shorinji Kempo Associatio­n secretary-general sensei Mascentius James thanked all the referees and judges for the non-stop events and refresher course.

He advised all kenshis to keep on training to enhance their techniques for tournament­s in 2018.
