Need for resolute action to address unresolved problems — Bumburing

-

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Cinta Sabah president cum Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Bumburing in his Christmas and New Year greeting urged to always remember that there would be no better life without definitive and positive action.

“As we enter the New Year expecting to enjoy all of its potentials and promises, let us take time to remember our loved ones, our warriors, protectors and heroes who have left us.

“And while we honour them, we should also remember our children and especially those who were born this year. The year 2018 will be the first year for them and we give them our assurance to be their protectors, heroes and the foundation for their hope in helping to shape them to face their future in order for them to enjoy the promises and potentials in the years to come,” he said.

Bumburing pointed out that the empty frame of the New Year would be formed by the rakyat’s desires, hopes and dreams.

However, he said the actuality of its results would only be determined by what they do and by the commitment that they make and keep, and added that many would leave behind unresolved resolution of the past year and once again face another new resolution.

“Whatever our dreams individually, it will only be achieved through a resolute and instrumental action. There is a universal truth which we must incorporate in our network of New Year wishes and resolutions.

“While we hope for a better life in the coming year, we must always remember that there will be no better life without definitive and positive action. While we hope to be able to enjoy successes, we must always remember that there will be no successes without sacrifice. There will be no progress without planning and the prosperity in life will not be achieved without your participation, ”he stressed.

He opined that at the national level, the effect of policy and practices by our national leaders continue to impact our lives. An effective strategy with strong political will that yields sustained long-term benefit continues to elude the people.

While unemployment is on the increase, retrenchment exercise in the private sector is also increasing and that is a cause for concern.

“All indications show that these problems will continue to be with the rakyat in 2018, as there are no real resolute and instrumental action on the part of the government to address these issues,” he claimed.

“Our ringgit value continues to slide and taxes are on the increase. Effect from the reduction and/or abolishment of subsidies on essential commodities has resulted in inflation rate increasing which should not be happening.

“Nevertheless, we do not accept this as an excuse by the government in not fulfilling its core functions of making good policy, regulating economic and social actors and placing accountability on its agents,” he said.

He is also of the opinion that many of the problems we face in 2017 and may continue on in 2018 are not necessarily due to resource constraints but have more to do with the breakdown of the core functions of policy, regulation and accountability of the government.

He pointed out that the national economic growth is not at a level that Malaysians can be proud of despite fiscal discipline. In fact, there seems to be a strong belief on the part of the government that fiscal discipline by itself will bring about economic growth.

As a result, very little creativity is utilized in which the economy can be stimulated to grow. Lack of economic growth is a sign of failure on the part of the government which is not necessarily as a result of external factors, he lamented.

“We now have come to a point in which we strongly believe that a radical change in the political trend is not only necessary but imminent. This year must be the year for change towards prosperity. However, change and prosperity will not be achieved without our united effort and participation.

“Our corporate role, both at the state and national level is for us to be able to form a government that is committed in performing its core functions towards achieving a solution to the national problem with the hope that these problems with not haunt us from year to year.

“Therefore let us start this New Year together in one resolution to confront all of its challenges, and achieve all the hopes it promises which is there for us to embrace.

“Let us resolve to do the best for our children and our future generations as this is the most honorable action that we can do for the generation that has come before us. Let us resolve to care more for our health, for our prosperity and for our environment.

“Let us not be just onlookers standing behind the curtains but be part of the group that would positively stimulate a regime change. Let us together make the year 2018, a year for change towards a better and more prosperous year and the years to come for Sabah and for Malaysia,” he said.
