Battle of the Bands Feb 1

-

KOTA KINABALU: By popular demand from music lovers and musicians in Sabah, the Luyang assemblyman office has decided to stage a band competition in Kota Kinabalu on February 1, 2018.

The objective is to give local musicians a chance to show their talents and at the same time upgrade their musical skills while allowing everyone a chance to know more about the high standard of our local musicians.

This contest is open to local bands with a minimum of three members, and six members maximum. Any type of musical instruments can be used to perform, but no electronic preset music is allowed. Band members must not be professional musicians. The organizer welcomes the bamboo or other local native musical instruments to be used in the contest.

The rules of the contest is very simple. The bands only need to Whatsapp to 019-8809987 their own video recording clips of their performance on two selected musical numbers, one fast-beat and one slow-beat music, plus one vocal song sang in any Malaysian language by the band members.

There is no enrolment fee required, and the closing date for submission of the video clips is at 1pm on January 15, 2018.

There will be a standard set of sound system provided by the organizer on stage for use by the contestants, but the bands can always bring their own.

The organizer will select 10 finalists to contest and to perform in a charity fund raising dinner function. The bands will have to pay an enrolment fee of RM500 to qualify, and must be paid one week before January 21, 2018.

Prizes will be RM5,000, RM3,000, andRM2,000.

Luyang assemblyman Datuk Hiew King Cheu strongly recommends that local musicians make use of this rare opportunity to show their talent in music, and he wishes that through this contest, there will be an uplift in the standard of music in Sabah, especially locally composed music and songs.

The venue of the function will be confirmed at a later date.
